Daddy speaks in chapel at DTS
Daddy spoke in chapel at DTS this past week. The subject was Parental Rights and Responsibilities and he adapted his talk at Blythefield for the seminary setting. If you want to hear it, go to www.dts.edu/media/chapel/ and click on 10/14/2008.
The State Fair
Last week we went to the state fair. It was fun. We went to the dog show, the petting zoo, the backyard circus, the butter sculpture of King Tut's tomb and our favorite show was the african acrobats. Here are a few pictures:

Choir Concert
Last Sunday evening was the Nielson and Young piano concert at PCPC, the church were we have choir. Our choir was participating in one of the songs titled, 'When With Our Music God is Glorified'. We were accompanied by a small orchestra and the two pianists. Mom video taped parts of the song for you to see. The whole concert was beautiful and we enjoyed it a lot. See if you can find Lily and I in the video. We are rather small, so good luck searching.

Angela's Birthday Party
This weekend we celebrated my birthday with a few friends. On Saturday night we went out to LaMadeline, a little french bistro, for dinner. Mommy brought a table cloth and candles for the table. I had made a corsage for each lady that afternoon and we set one at each place setting. We made a carrot cake and I got a new, special dress that morning for the party. My two friends Hope and Grace and their mom and my friend, who is my choir director, were my special guests. We each had a delicious dinner and cake. After the dinner we went to the symphony. It was amazing! The music was beautiful. My choir director's husband plays cello in the symphony and he is also my cello teacher. It was a lovely evening spent with very dear friends!

The Pumpkin Patch at the Botanical Gardens
We spent a pleasant afternoon at the Pumpkin Patch. It's cooled down into the 80's and the weather was great. Here are some of the photos:

Happy Birthday Starla

We celebrated Starla's fourth birthday recently. She asked for a watermelon pinata and we decided to make one. It took a long time for her to crack it open, but she was very pleased with the wide variety of candy which eventually fell from it. She also wanted a watermelon cake. She was very pleased with her presents. I think her favorites were a beautiful princess dress, the scooter that Grandma and Pop-pop bought her, and her CD player to listen to stories on.

Back to the South

Howdy Ya'll! We are back in the south. There is a lot to do so it has taken us a while to update the blog. We started school 3 weeks ago and it is going very smoothly. We have been swimming in the neighborhood pools near our house quite often. I (Angela) am in my first co-op class this year. I am taking physical science and it is pretty fun. After class I get together with some girls I know and they have been teaching me how to crochet. Lily and Robyn are enjoying gymnastics, and we are all happy to be back to choir. This year our choir will be singing at two weddings and we are very excited.

Total Impact Missions Trip
It has been a privilege for Brian and Angela to participate on this team for a second year. When the girls and I saw them last night, they looked tan from working the land clearing it for the new hispanic church to be built. They looked tired--wet tents after rain resulted in nights of sleeping under the stars. Some of the team looked itchy from the poison ivy they've contracted. Thankfully, neither of them are yet amongst the "itchy" group yet. They looked satisfied with work well done for God's glory.
They are serving dinner to 125 each night as part of the Vacation Bible School that they are staffing. The kids come hungry. The girls and I provided dessert and kitchen help on Monday and Thursday night. It was great to see Lily and Robyn work cheerfully and faithfully setting table and refilling drinks.
They wrap up the VBS with a big carnival tonight and then return tomorrow at 5 p.m. and we pack up the van to drive south on Sunday.
Packing Up and Saying Goodbye
It's that time again....The girls and I saw our first yellow leaves on our walk through the orchards. We could smell the peaches ripe on the trees and the early apples are being picked. That means it's time for us to travel south again. I'll say goodbye to my mom today. When I do, I always wonder if it will be our final goodbye this side of heaven.... I spent yesterday morning sitting at the picnic table talking with these two dear friends who have been like sisters to me. Someone asked if we were sisters....I was tempted to say "yes".
It is comforting to have a history of "coming back home" year after year now. There is a greater sense of confidence when we give each other a hug and say, "Can't wait to do it again next summer." And wait with anticipation, we will....
